I adapted this card from a design by Yuichi Miyoshi. It features a slotted tree that swings out from the cutout.
As far as I can tell, this book is only available from Japan. However, you can download some of Yuichi Miyoshi's designs at Handmade Papercraft Club.
I didn't care for two issues with the the original design. First, the cutout half of the card is not covered when the card is closed. Second, the card tends to tip over when open as there is no foot to support the one side.
So... I converted the interior design to a tent with the buildings on one side of the tent and the tree on the other side of the tent. I added a scalloped foot to the bottom of each tent half and glued these on either side of the center fold of the base card.
The card stands well and the delicate cutout design is protected when the card is closed.

Amazing card, do you have a pattern of your version?
Thanks!
Just out of curiousity...how do you tell what u can download. I don't read Japanese...so I'm missing the download button, if there is one. cmsmith46580@gmail.com
Carole, this is gorgeous! I love it... simple and so elegant!
oh my so very cool!!!
pease do a tutorial for this one. It is fantastic!
Beautiful. I like the idea of the tent. It is apparent that it provides more support and I like the multidimensional effect it gives. Great job and TFS.

Just a great take on this card, Bravo. I have his book that I pick-up on my last trip to Japan. Some very inspiring designs.
Looking forward to see how this card is made.
PLEASE can you also tell us how you make your cuts look so neat especially for your tree with a craft knife.
If you have used a machine, please can you say which one and give some indication of how it works. I have heard a lot about machines. Not sure I get how they work.
Thanks
OH MY! That is beautiful, Carol.
Can't wait for the tut. Will you be offering a template or a cutting file for this? Would be a great Christmas prezzie for us, your faithful followers. ;o)
Happy Christmas to you and yours.
Yes, there will be a cutting file. It won't be EXACTLY like the one pictured, because that design isn't mine to reproduce and give away.
This was cut on a Craft Robo CC200-20. This particular model is no longer made. The Silhouette SD is essentially the same thing, although that, too, is obsolete.
The current model is called Silhouette Cameo.
I like the old Robo because I can cut directly from Corel Draw with a plugin. The new Cameo doesn't support this, which is a big step backwards in usability for me. On the other hand, the Cameo can load 12" wide paper, while the Robo is limited to 8.5".
I have not had an opportunity to try the Cameo in person, so I can't tell you much about it.
